Overview
Floor Safes Kick Ass!
Floor Safe Benefits:
- Easily Concealed
- High Security
- Impossible to Remove Once Installed
I’m amazed more people don’t opt for this option when choosing how to protect their valuables. They offer concealment, high security and are pretty much impossible to remove from the location when installed correctly. Unfortunately, the same shitty companies that have ruined safes in other categories have thinned out the doors and locking mechanisms out of floor safes too.
I highly advise you to stay away from companies like Barska, Tracker, Sentry and Protex as they have removed as much steel as possible from the doors and placed piece of crap dial locks that will rust out and fail within a year.
In contrast, companies like Stealth, American Security Products, Gardall, Hollon and Eclipse continue to make high quality products with ½” and up steel doors, thick locking bolts and high quality locks. Read below for my recommendations on the Top 3 Floor Safes of 2018.

Starting with the ½” solid steel door and three 1” solid steel locking bolts, Stealth beefed this safe up by recessing the door about 2-3 inches from the top of the body to make it impossible to pry open. Considering Floor Safes are encased in concrete on 5 out of 6 sides, the only access point is the door. You’d need a jackhammer and a lot of tools to attack it any other way making the door vitally important for security.
While I find the AMSEC B17 door more secure, it’s round and limited in capacity. Stealth uses the traditional square door to provide more usable space. It actually has the same internal cubic feet capacity as the B17 with significantly more accessibility and you can get more items inside with ease. Take the B2500 and you have significantly more capacity and for only $50 more it’s far worth the small increase in price from the B1500.
Where Stealth becomes the clear winner is price, It’s nearly a third of the price of the B17 and the AMSEC B1500 equivalent. For the same security and storage capacity, the Stealth B1500 dominates the competition. While I rank the Stealth B1500 and B2500 a 3 on this comparison chart it still blows away the rest of the competition, it’s just #3 in comparison to the far more expensive Amsec Floor Safes. It’s also made right here in the USA!

As previously discussed, the AMSEC B17 has the exact same internal cubic feet as the Stealth B1500 at near triple price. So what makes this safe so damn special you ask? The door. That’s it, just the damn door makes this safe worth it. Often described as the best built door ever, it’s like having the security of a bank vault in your own home. First, it’s round making it impossible to stick a screw driver, crowbar or any other prying device in the gap between the door and the body which, by the way, is non-existent. Okay, but what if you magically get something in there, you ask? Well, each bolt has been tested to withstand up to 25,000 pounds of pressure and yes you read that right, 25,000 pounds. Oh, and if you manage to shear one, each bolt has it’s own hardened steel positive relocking bolt. If any of the relocking bolts fire, you are essentially fucked my friend. Okay, so you can’t pry it, what about drilling? Yea, AMSEC thought about that too and made the dial removable and the spindle is drill resistant which provides additional burglary protection. If you forget your combination on this safe, you’re fucked, nobody is getting in, it’s just that secure.
The B17 provides significantly more storage capacity than the traditional AMSEC C series but considering the door is round and only 7-1/4” wide, it’s just hard to get a lot of items inside. So while the security is by far the best, it has its limitations and considering it’s damn expensive too. That’s why I ranked it my #2 Best Floor Safe.

Extremely similar to the Stealth B1500 the AMSEC equivalent has a few minor changes. AMSEC adds a ¼” to the door and bolts for a total door thickness of ¾” and a total bolt thickness of 1”. These are the only real changes to the product as it has the exact same dimensions, cubic ft. capacity and clear door opening. I truly don’t believe a ¼” of steel is worth the extra expense nor do I believe it will make any real difference during an attack. So while American Security makes a very fine safe in the B1500, it isn’t worth the monster price increase leaving me to rank this safe 3rd in my top 3 Best Floor Safes of 2020.
