I’m honestly surprised Mesa is somehow still in business. They sell the lowest quality products with false advertising and have horrible reviews. The owner has been in and out of jail multiple times and if I were you, I would stay as far away as possible from this company and their products. In this review, I’ll help you understand why the Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe is a product you should avoid at all costs.

Lock – Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe

First and always most important on any safe is the lock. Mesa used a Solenoid electronic lock with key override. These are the most common types of electronic locks coming out of China because they are cheap. However, they lack the most basic functions of security and can be opened far too easily. They have no security rating, no testing whatsoever and are not reliable long term.

However, this is not the main issue with the safe. The fatal flaw is the key override. In an attempt to save some money and have a lower price, they went with a tubular override key. These locks can be opened with BIC pens just by inserting and twisting. There are also numerous tubular lock picks available on Amazon that pick these locks in seconds.

Security – Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe

The security on the Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe is listed in one section of the page at 6.35 mm which translates to 1/4″ steel plate door. At 40 lbs in total, this is possible and while 1/4″ isn’t bad it also isn’t particularly thick on it’s own. Standard on wall safes is a minimum of 3/8″ with the real security starting at 1/2″.

This wall safe also features an exposed reset button to set the combination. This can be easily pressed by slightly prying the door and using a coat wire to press it. When you combine the lack of security in the door with the easy opening methods from the lock and key override, this wall safe is not secure at all.

Style and Function – Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe

The one thing the Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe has going for it, is that it is adjustable and able to extend deeper into the wall than a standard wall safe such as the SnapSafe wall safe. It has two fixed shelves that are not removable and is finished in a powder coat beige. The locking mechanism and safe looks like it was built in the 1970s and is not an attractive finish. It is also falsely advertised as Made in the USA, which it is not. It is 100% made in China.

Warranty

The Mesa Wall Safe is covered by their one year limited warranty. In writing, this warranty is actually not that bad. It covers the cost of sending out a technician to your location to repair the safe and includes the cost of shipping for all replacement parts. However, getting a hold of Mesa’s customer service department and getting them to actually honor the warranty is an entirely different issue. I would be very surprised if they actually follow through with the warranty and help you out.

The Bottom Line

The Mesa MAWS2113E Wall Safe is a low quality product, made by an unreliable company, that has a reputation of not providing any service or warranty for their products. The security on this safe is severely lacking and it is way too easy to break-in via multiple methods. One quick search on Youtube and you’ll see exactly how to do it.

With that said, there is a wall safe I do recommend. The Stealth WSHD1414 wall safe comes with a 1/2″ thick solid steel door, UL rated high security S&G mechanical lock, hard plate, re-locker, 12 gauge steel body, double the warranty and is Made in USA. It’s my top absolute top pick in the wall safe category and significantly more secure. It is more expensive, but with safes, you always get what you pay for.
